Silent Way Press

Books for operators.

Silent Way Press publishes manuscripts that compress hard-won practitioner experience into portable disciplines. We publish slowly, edit thoroughly, and design for the long shelf.

The press

Why this press exists.

The publishing economics of business non-fiction reward velocity — books that ship fast, market wide, and treat the reader as a buyer first and a practitioner second. Silent Way Press exists to publish in the opposite direction.

We seek manuscripts from operators — executives, builders, governance leaders, and the practitioners they work alongside. The kind of book where the author has spent enough years inside the discipline to know what they would tell their younger self, and is willing to put it down in prose with the directness the work requires.

We edit at the level of argument and at the level of sentence. We design each book as a long-lived object, not a launch artifact. We publish few titles per year. We expect each to be useful a decade after we ship it.

The name

In a Silent Way.

The press takes its name from the 1969 Miles Davis recording, In a Silent Way — widely understood as the record that opened the door to the next twenty years of jazz. It did so by stripping away rather than adding. Less rhythm. Fewer notes. Longer space between them. The result was a recording that does not impose itself on the room — it changes it.

We take the principle as our editorial standard. Restraint is generative. A book made of fewer, harder-edited sentences carries further than a book made of more.

Submissions

What we read.

We accept proposals in narrow categories: enterprise AI, operating disciplines, governance, and adjacent practitioner non-fiction. We rarely publish memoir, business biography, or how-to-for-individuals titles.

A complete proposal includes:

  • A cover letter (one page) explaining the book and the reader it is for.
  • A working table of contents.
  • One sample chapter that demonstrates voice and discipline.
  • A short biographical note on the author's vantage and credentials.

We acknowledge submissions within four weeks. We do not respond to incomplete proposals.

Send proposals to editorial@silentwaypress.com.
